Accommodation & Camping

John Perry Hut

This is a 70ft x 20ft fully insulated wooden building being divided into a main hall, two leaders rooms and a large bunk room. As well as a separate kitchen. Each leaders room has 3 double bunks. The main dormitory 9 double bunks, all with foam mattresses. Sleeps 30

Les Burt Hut

This is a 40ft x 20ft wooden building, having an open plan. It has background heating and is supplied with cold water to the sink units. There is a fridge and four gas burner rings. The hut is well supplied with food preperation benches, tables and chairs.


Spitewinter has four acres of sloping woodland with several camping areas. These differ in size. Some being suitable for groups engaged in troop and patrol camps. Others are ideal for backpackers and people carrying out expedition work.

Toilet / Shower Block

The toilet block has male and female sections, each with flush toilets and showers, hand washing facilities with hot and cold water. The male section has electric shaver points fitted. The disabled unit is separate and includes all of the above.

Spitewinter campsite is located in the heart of Derbyshire and is on the fringe of the Peak District National Park, a well known area for walking, climbing, canoeing and sailing.

Famous for its Crooked Spire, Chesterfield is only 5 miles away, where many local amenities are available.

Spitewinter has four acres of sloping woodland with several camping areas. These areas differ in size suitable for pack, patrol or troop camping. It is also ideal for back packers and expedition work.

We have two wooden huts available for hire. There is a shower and toilet block, with separate facility for disabled if required.

Site Amenities

The site itself, with its woodland and flat areas, gives great opportunities for wide-games and camp craft activities. The site also has a small open chapel area alongside a tiered campfire circle.

Lighting and electricity are provided as part of the camp fee. Showers are available via £1 tokens upon request from your camp warden.

Open fire bases are situated around the site. A wood pile is provided. There is also a campfire circle with tiered seating.

Car Parking

Car Parking is available on site by the entrance. Cars are not allowed on camping areas.

The water available on site is provided from our own bore hole. All water on site is safe for drinking.
